This is by Tom Thomson

This is by Monet.
In this blog I will will be evaluating these two pieces of art on their quality and their intention... and give my response to them. Tom Thomson's piece is very striking with two bright colours red and yellow. Thomson tries to depict a beautiful sunset, I am not sure what his intent is in painting this piece. accept to depict the beauty of nature, this may be a late autumn sunset when it is not yet cold enough for snow. The landscape s being covered by shadows as the seasons change and the days grow shorter. Perhaps Thomson was trying to show us how short beauty can last.. a colorful sunset only lasts for perhaps an hour. we must grab life by the horns while we are still young and able to enjoy the beauty of life around us .... we cannot wait around for better weather or warmer seasons we must enjoy the very moment we are living in. I guess that about sums up my response to... And being from Tom Thomson the Quality is very good.. i enjoy the defined lines he uses .. leaving everything so clear for us.... or is it?

Monet's creations are always so smooth and soothing. I think his intent in this piece is to capture the viewer in the peace..... to calm them and call the away from the stress and bustle that make up our lives, for nothings is as soothing as the tinkle of soft moving water... wee for me anyway. to drift down a stream in a small boat would be a time to cherish. the quality of this piece is well. very good.. Monet unlike Thomson uses soft shades that all meld into our own imaginations. Listening to "Waiting..." by Dallas Green while viewing this painting makes you want to cry.. with joy..

Art... can we really determine what is.. and what isn't?

We cannot know or say what is and isn't art. Someone with a Ph.d in the Arts may claim to be able to determine art from non art.. but these days.. anything can be called art. Anyone can create art.. i have heard of a six year old girl who would paint pictures.. they were not of asny world image but just colours on a canvas. Some of these paintings sold for thousands of dollars, people considered them master peices. Does it have to be old to be art? no.. not in my opinion. Does it have to be good to be considered art? Guess not, looking at some of the crappy artists who find the money to make their stuff.. and then get paid for it. We cannot determine art ourselves, something we think is crappy may be seen as something brilliant to someone else. I guess I just have to suck it up and call everything art.

Even this piece. It does need an appreciating audience.. even if it is just the creator.

Consequentialism: the theory that human actions derive their moral worth solely from their outcomes or consequences.

Utilitarianism: the ethical doctrine that virtue is based on utility, and that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest happiness of the greatest number of persons.

Egoism:the habit of valuing everything only in reference to one's personal interest; selfishness.

Situational ethics, or situation ethics states that sometimes other moral principles can be cast aside in certain situations if love is best served;

deontology: ethics, esp. that branch dealing with duty, moral obligation, and right action.

Categorical Imperative:Ethics. the rule of Immanuel Kant that one must do only what one can will that all others should do under similar circumstances.

Contractarianism:any of various theories that justify moral principles and political choices because they depend on a social contract involving certain ideal conditions, as lack of ignorance or uncertainty.

Natural Rights:

a political theory that individuals have basic rights given to them by nature or God that no individual or government can deny

Virtue ethics: is a branch of moral philosophy that emphasizes character, rather than rules or consequences, as the key element of ethical thinking.

I think that virtue ethics is the one that would be most likely used in this situation. it seems to be the best description of what must be done in the situation. Deontoly is also one that fits the description of my situation. Utilitarianism would work in my case.. doing the right thing and working on the assignment would bring happiness to my teacher, to my parents and to myself.

ETHICAL DILEMMA!!

here is my ethical dilemma:
Your busy schedule has kept you from really working on that science
research paper. It is due in
two days, and you have only a rough outline of what you are going to
say. You need this paper to
be good, to keep your sports and activities schedule from suffering.
You need more supporting
research. There is a web site that has "ready to use" research papers.
In fact, you have found
one that would work for your paper. Your science teacher is very busy
with school business and
doesn't always check the reports against online copies. Do you use the
online copy to fit your
schedule, or do you make room in your schedule to write it yourself?

In the event of a situation like this
I would probably write the paper myself even though it would take me a lot of time
and i would need to pull a late night to get it done.
I have never cheated on a paper before and I do
not want to get in that habit. If I were caught there would be
consequences, such as trust of teacher lost, trust
of parents lost, and living with the guilt of failing
people who believed in me. On the other hand getting
it donewould have taken long hours into the night to
complete which would affect the whole next day. My
parents have raised me with good morales and I would
chose topull a late night to complete a project just as i
have so many times before.
